A leisurely place to visit with the locals, get a taste of the famous, fresh seafood, do some fishing, enjoy whale or bird watching, hike through the forest, or just enjoy the salty, clean air.


Deer Island is part of a group of islands that are known as the "West Isles". It is between Southwestern New Brunswick and Eastern Maine at the Western edge of the Bay of Fundy. It is halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. It is approximately 9 miles long and 3 miles wide, with around 1,000 people living there.


There are several accommodations on the island such as cottages, chalets, guest houses, B&B's, motels, camp ground, etc. There are 2 restaurants and 1 diner. Deer Island has 4 general stores plus 3 post offices.


It was inhabited in 1770. It had one of the first privately owned telephone companies with a link to Eastport, Maine. Deer Island was visited by Admiral Harding during the War of 1812.
